Manish Sisodia CBI News
Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, arrested in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy scam case, has been remanded in custody for two more days by a special CBI court at Rouse Avenue. Special Judge M K Nagpal said custody was required for further interrogation in the case. The court granted two-day custody to the CBI on its demand for three days. It also directed the CBI to produce Sisodia at 2 pm on March 6 after the expiry of his detention period. During the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Pankaj Gupta, appearing for the CBI, said the agency said Sisodia was still not cooperating in the investigation.
Sisodia also filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the arrest. A lot of the agency’s time was wasted. Due to this, we could not get enough time to inquire. The agency asked the court to extend Sisodia’s three-day remand.
Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, appearing for Sisodia, said the agency is once again seeking an extension of custody on the ground of non-cooperation in the probe, but the probe agency’s disqualification of not being able to achieve anything in the interrogation cannot be a ground for granting custody. “If raids were conducted from Sisodia’s house to the bank locker, he was out for several months, then what is the point of detaining him now? To this, the court said, “If you want, you can challenge the detention order.” In response, Krishnan said, “We are not questioning the detention order, but on the basis of the extension of remand by the agency after five days, the question is that it should be investigated more strictly while granting custody for the second time.”
Senior advocate Mohit Mathur, appearing for Sisodia, said if Sisodia does not cooperate in the next three days, will he seek an extension of custody on the same grounds? Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 after an eight-hour-long interrogation and on February 27, the court sent Manish to five-day CBI custody.
Eight Hours of Interrogation is Mental Torture
Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “On the last hearing, my lawyer had talked about third degree. The agency’s attitude towards me has been respectful, but even a long interrogation of six to eight hours is third-degree. He is being mentally tortured by the agency by asking the same question over and over again. After hearing Sisodia’s side, the special judge directed the CBI to inquire about any new questions or information. Also, keep getting Sisodia’s medical examination done.
Bail plea to be heard on 10th March
Special Judge M K Nagpal issued notice to the CBI and directed it to file a reply on the bail plea filed by former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the excise policy scam case.
The court said the matter will come up for a hearing on March 10. During the hearing, senior advocate Mohit Mathur, appearing for Sisodia, talked about hearing the bail plea. Special Public Prosecutor Pankaj Gupta, appearing for the CBI, said the agency needs time to file its reply. The court said that the matter will be heard after Holi.
